Asbestos it is commonly known to people as the artificial mineral manufactured by some chemicals but in fact this is a natural mineral found in the form of fibers used by human for many purpose. The properties of this mineral are the main thing which makes it very popular i.e., they are fire resistant, chemical resistant, strong in nature, flexible and low electrical conductivity. Because of its unique nature and properties this is used in many industries for various purposes. Some of its uses are mentioned below.
- As it has high resistance to fire, it is used in construction industry such as to build fireproof ceilings or surroundings.
- Because of the same reason of fire proof this finds its use in textile industry to produce fireproof clothing as it is easier to weave into any cloth.
- It is used to produce gaskets and pipes which are fire resistant.
- This is used in steam engines as a lining material in 1828.
- This is used to make floorings, brake linings, and clutch facings in automobiles for many years.
- Also it is used in shipping industry.
- Other than these the shocking news about this asbestos is that it is used in some toothpaste and surgical thread.
